Elks Lodge, Foley, Alabama to Ho Hum RV Park, Carrabelle, Florida, a short hop of almost 300 miles. Five hours later we arrived to our beach front sites. It is still very cold for these Southern Californians. But I notice even the folks from Minnesota are bundled up.
Willets, Redheads and a variety of other shorebirds are dining right outside our windows.

Must do laundry or will have nothing to wear. 8 a.m. and the laundry room is empty. A sign in the laundry room warns the dryers don’t function as well when the temperature is below 55.They weren’t kidding! After running the sheets and jeans through the dryer twice I opted to hang them in the front window of the motor home and let the greenhouse effect work.
Dinner out at the local hangout, CJ’s Pit Stop. Jerre ordered a whole flounder.
She ate the whole thing! |
Rob and Stan both had all you can eat fried shrimp. Did I mention before, everything in the south seems to be fried? And usually comes with hush puppies, fried balls of dough! I had grilled shrimp and a salad, skipped the hush puppies.

Day trip to St. Mark’s National Wildlife Refuge, a swamp complete with alligators (which we didn’t see), and lots of shore birds.

Jerre and I walked down the beach after the tide changed. We found a few items that weren’t there the days before.
Day trip to Apalachicola just to stroll around the town AND so Stan and Jerre could have oysters for lunch.
Cute little town with lots of “stuff” for tourists to buy. One store had a variety of sponges of different sizes and shapes. One large one was priced at $95. We should have applied more muscle to the one we found on the sand. Jerre and I bought some postcards. She bought a gift or two for some friends and family.
The weather is finally warming enough to be outside without down jackets and mittens. Naturally, we’re leaving tomorrow.

Off to Quail Run RV Resort in Wesley Chapel, a suburb of Tampa. Finally, it’s HOT! At least 80°. Nice RV Park, own your own style. Laundry room is huge! But we’ve already done our laundry.
This RV Park is set among stately oak trees draped with Spanish moss.
Steak on the Barbie with a glass of Moonstone Syrah!

Foggy! Rob and Stan are going into Tampa to see about repairs to Stan’s step. It still isn’t working properly, but then the gears are missing teeth.
Jerre and I went for a walk and along the way spotted some interesting birds. Jerre had to run back for her camera.
